Position Summary

Posting Note: At Phoenix Children's, with more than 40 sites of service across Arizona - and new hospitals soon to open in Gilbert and Glendale - we're providing comprehensive, top-quality healthcare, ranging from primary to highly specialized services for kids who have complex or chronic illnesses. Our newly renovated, state-of-the-art Emergency Department at the main campus sees over 90,000 children a year and is the only free-standing. level-one pediatric trauma center in the state. Our non-profit health system provides world-class inpatient, outpatient, trauma, emergency, and urgent care, including offering more than 75 subspecialty fields of pediatric medicine. With this growth, we have continued to expand our division, our facilities and our training programs that includes fellowships in both Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Pediatric Urgent Care. We currently have full and part-time Pediatric Emergency Department roles that can be solely at one of the satellite ED's or a combination of positions at the main campus and a satellite. We are also looking to expand our Urgent Care coverage as we currently have five centers staffed 5 pm-midnight Monday through Friday and 10am to 8pm on weekends. You'll be responsible for all functions aligned with the mission, vision, and goals of Phoenix Children's, while applying skills in a pediatric ED and urgent care setting. Physicians are responsible for evaluating and providing evidence-based treatment to pediatric patients within their scope of practice under the Medical Director's supervision. Qualifications •BC/BE in Pediatrics •Active state license or eligible to obtain •Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.


This position works in collaboration with the attending physicians and works within their scope of practice to provide excellent clinical care for patients. Plays a critical role in the patient family medical team. Professional who may practice in hospital's inpatient and/or outpatient setting.

Position Duties

  1. Conducts comprehensive health history, physical assessments and plans for infants, children and young adults with acute and chronic health conditions. Utilizes advanced assessment skills to manage a cohort of patients.
  2. Orders and prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, and performs other therapeutic or corrective measures to treat illness and improve health status.
  3. Formulates family centered plan of care. Performs daily documents as necessary. Collaborated and coordinated care with other team members.
  4. Collects data and analyzes when necessary.
  5. Performs any needed advanced procedures that are associated with their credentialing process DOP.
  6. Utilizes the most up to date and evidence based practice for plan of care and able to alter the plan according to family needs and effectiveness or plan.
  7. Serves as an educational resource to patient/family/ nursing staff/ provider team and other health care teams as needed.
  8. Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competences, certifying body renewals, seeking educational offerings when available, and participates in the professional development of others which may include Advanced Practice Provider students, Residents and Medical Students. Acts as a preceptor/mentor for those new in department.
  9. Demonstrates commitment to patient safety by bring up concerns in appropriate manner, reporting through appropriate channels, and ensuring change of practice when necessary. Demonstrates shared accountability of safe practice.
  10. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
