Job Description

Aalo Atomics is pioneering a new era in clean energy with factory-fabricated microreactors designed to deliver affordable, scalable, and reliable nuclear power. Our mission is to make nuclear energy globally accessible, starting with the Aalo-1, a 30MWt reactor leveraging cutting-edge safety, modularity, and efficiency. Based in Austin, TX, we’re rapidly growing as we work to deploy the world’s first fleet of advanced microreactors. Join us and help revolutionize energy for a sustainable future. About the role Join Aalo Atomics' Applied Physics Division as a Nuclear Engineer, and play a key role in shaping the future of advanced reactor technology. You'll dive deep into reactor core simulations, thermal-hydraulic analyses, shielding evaluations, and innovative thermomechanical modeling. Collaborate with a talented team to enhance the safety, performance, and efficiency of next‑gen reactor designs. What you'll do Reactor Core Simulation: Develop and maintain cutting‑edge computational models for reactor physics and thermal‑hydraulic behavior using tools like Serpent, MCNP, and OpenMC. Thermal‑Hydraulic Analysis: Perform detailed subchannel thermal‑hydraulic simulations to evaluate coolant flow dynamics and heat transfer within advanced reactor cores. Shielding Analysis: Conduct shielding analyses employing sophisticated variance reduction techniques to ensure effective radiation protection. Fuel Performance & Thermomechanical Modeling: Leverage multi‑physics platforms (MOOSE, BISON, BISON‑MARMOT) for in‑depth thermomechanical analysis of reactor components, evaluating stresses, deformation, and material performance under operational conditions. Uncertainty Quantification: Implement uncertainty quantification methods to enhance model robustness and confidence in simulation outcomes. Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with teams across disciplines, driving innovation and problem‑solving in reactor core and system design. Qualifications Education: MS or PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related fields. Experience: At least 5–7 years of relevant industry or research experience in nuclear reactor design, computational modeling, or related fields. Technical Proficiency: Hands‑on experience with computational and analysis software such as Serpent, MCNP, OpenMC, MOOSE, BISON, TRANSURANUS, COMSOL, ANSYS, or similar. Problem‑Solving Abilities: Demonstrated capability to innovate solutions for complex nuclear engineering challenges. Collaboration: Strong communication and teamwork skills, comfortable working in dynamic, multidisciplinary environments. Eligibility : U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or citizenship from DOE Part 810 authorized countries. Locations: Choose your ideal workplace between vibrant Austin, TX, or scenic Idaho Falls, ID—both fantastic options to live and thrive professionally. If you're passionate about nuclear innovation and ready to drive cutting‑edge advancements, we'd love to hear from you! #J-18808-Ljbffr Aalo Atomics
