Community Health Educator – St. Louis County Join to apply for the Community Health Educator role at St. Louis County Description St. Louis County Department of Public Health is seeking a Community Health Educator to initiate its COSSUP activities (Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Use Site-based Program). This is an in-person role, with five days a week working at the St. Louis County Jail. This position is funded by DOJ Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Use Site-based Program (COSSUP). It will support substance use education and interventions within Corrections Medicine, create and refine intake and discharge planning, and establish a pipeline for assessing contraband for testing via Project EAGLEFANG. This is a grant‑funded position, funded through 9/30/2026. The starting salary range is $17.21 – $20.65 hourly depending upon the candidate’s qualifications as well as budgetary considerations. The employee can also take up to 80 hours of leave for prenatal care and up to 80 hours for care of the child within the first year. Selection and Appointment A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant, including recentness and appropriateness of the applicant’s education and experience, answers to supplemental questions, and employment reference investigations. Candidates must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews, a Conviction Questionnaire will be sent to selected candidates who have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire. The five top‑ranking candidates will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority for final decision. All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory and the cost will be covered by the County. New employees will also complete COVID‑19 vaccination status attestations and, if not fully vaccinated, will submit to weekly COVID‑19 testing until fully vaccinated or until the County reaches a 70% vaccination rate with moderate transmission.
