Job Overview

In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine's faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day.

Essential Functions

Assistant Dean for Medical Student Admissions 0.2 FTE

  • Participate in developing and implementing admissions policies, procedures, and initiatives that align with the mission and goals of the medical school.
  • Attend and actively participate in Admissions Office staff meetings.
  • Assist in the development and execution of recruitment strategies to attract a talented applicant pool, including outreach to undergraduate institutions and pre-medical programs.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Admissions Office and interested stakeholders, including potential first-time applicants and reapplicants.
  • Participate in the work of the Admissions Committee (non-voting, ex-officio), providing guidance on applicant evaluation, decision-making, and committee review processes.
  • Assist with virtual interview days, in person visits, and second-look event programming for incoming students, as your schedule permits.

Phase 1 Physician Career Coach and M3/M4 Career Advisor 0.4 FTE

  • Provide individualized and small group advising to medical students, especially Phase 1 students, regarding specialty exploration, career development, preparing for clerkship year, and planning for the Match.
  • Provide leadership to Student Affairs for Phase 1 Career events, especially the Personal & Professional Development (PPD series) and Careers in Medicine Week.
  • Provide individualized advising to medical students, especially M3/4 students, regarding their clinical schedules, career exploration activities/resources and Match planning.
  • Contribute to the development of advising tools based on current literature, collaboration with UCCOM Student Affairs staff and outside LCME accredited medical schools.
  • Collaborate with designated specialty advisors, from UCCOM Departments and CCHMC, to optimize streamlined and uniform advising of students in their specialties of interest.
  • Attend and be available to participate in class meetings pertaining to career and scheduling.
  • Attend and actively participate in Student Affairs staff meetings and Career Advisors meetings.
  • Collaborate on scholarly projects including regional/national presentations, posters and peer reviewed publications in areas pertaining to career and Match advising.
  • Engage in continuous quality improvement processes and data analyses that provide guidance for short and long-term programmatic advising goals and result in the achievement of measurable outcomes.

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree or Terminal Degree.

Required Experience

  • Seven (7) years of relevant work experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of higher education administrative experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Evidence of a minimum of 3 years of experience with teaching and/or advising medical students across the 4 years of the curriculum with emphasis on Years 3 and 4 of the medical curricula.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including demonstrated strong interpersonal skills advising students on complex and confidential matters is essential.
  • Displays demonstrable experience in being able to work independently and collaboratively with others.
  • Demonstrates evidence of prioritizing tasks, multi-tasking and strong organizational skills.
  • Shows evidence of a commitment to mentoring and developing students, other learners and staff.
